I've just had the best morning. I was up at ten past five and pottered around the place until Daddy got up to make me breakfast. I spent quite a bit of time playing Elmo games on the Sesame Street website before Mum and I went out to take the car for a service. At the service centre I could see down to the workshop where there were lots of men leaning over cars. We sat in the door and watched them for ages. A man drove our car over to a carpark, then came over to talk to us, but he stood in the driveway. I pointed and said, 'Stand over there, be careful, cars might come'. He nodded and did what I told him to. After a while we set off for the skate park. I had the whole place to myself so I ran and jumped and climbed and rode all over the place. I tried to get Mum to jump down a big ramp, but she was too scared. Then she tried to get me to ride down it, but I refused and said, 'No, it's too steep'. I climbed up it and slid down on my tummy instead. After a good forty minutes of romping about the skate park we rode off to the playground where I climbed about for another ten minutes or so. Then I rode all the way home! I'm just a little bit pooped now. Tuesday, February 24, 2004
Oops - it's been a while since I posted, but that's because I've been very busy. Daddy is home - yay! Mum, Jasmine and I went to the airport to pick him up. We stood right in front of the doors and I peered through the fence and called out, 'Daddy! Daddy! Where's Oskar's Daddy? Daddy? Where's my Daddy! DADDY!' Lots of people came out, but not Daddy. Then he appeared beside us - he'd snuck out the wrong door and I missed seeing him come out. Oh well, he brought me presents. The best present was a rubbish bin truck. It's big and orange and can pick up a bin and dump the rubbish into the back of the truck. I love it! I've been putting blocks and bobbins and anything that fits into the bin and emptying it into my truck. The only problem is that Jazzie seems to like kneeling on my truck and trying to stand up on it. I get very upset when she does that. I keep worrying that Daddy will go away again, though. I was thinking about that on the couch when Mum said, 'You look a bit tired'. I replied, 'No, I look a bit sad'. She asked why I was sad and I said, 'I miss Daddy...Daddy might go airport again and Oskar might miss him'. Whenever a little box pops up on the computer screen I know what it is now because that's how Mum talked to Daddy while he was away. Yesterday I heard a little boop-boop and saw the box and told Mum, 'Look, a letter with Daddy'. I've pretty much got my room back to myself again. Over the last few weeks I've insisted that Jasmine doesn't sleep with me because she makes too much noise. Plus she cramps my style in the mornings. When I wake up at quarter to five, I can turn on the light and play without having to tip-toe around her and risk having her cry. Suits me much better. Saturday, February 14, 2004
Only one sleep till Daddy comes home - Yay! I'm so sick of having to get Mummy up in the mornings. This morning it took me about six trips into her bedroom to finally get her up. I figured that if I want her up by 6am then I should start waking her at 5am, since she takes so long to wake up. Fair reasoning I think. The first few times I shook Mum she took me straight back to bed. That was predictable, so I left it 5-10 minutes between trips to give her a bit more of a lie-in. Then I decided to get serious and whispered to her, 'Muuuuum, I did a lovely sleep, Mum'. She mumbled something indecipherable so I said, 'Mum, I kiss and cuddle you,' and gave her a kiss, then said, 'Mummy get up!' Finally she staggered up and into my bedroom, where she climbed into my bed. That wasn't my plan, but I know I have to be gentle with her in the mornings, or she turns into an ugly ogre. I said, 'Oskar might kiss and cuddle you and you might feel better.' Then I pulled off the doona and said, 'Mum, get up and make porridge!' She finally got up. I climbed up on to the kitchen bench while Mum got the porridge ready, but she still didn't look too good. I suggested, 'Mummy might have white tablet, make you feel better.' She didn't, instead coming over for a cuddle. I patted her back and said, 'I love you, Mummy.' I think Mum misses Daddy too. Thursday, February 12, 2004
I'm happy to go to kinder, but I don't like going to the gym. The last time Mum said we were going, I told her, 'Not want to go gym. Mummy goes by mself, Oskar stays here with Jazzie.' When she was making moves to go, I told her again, 'Oskar might stay here with Jazzie.' It didn't work. I've been spending a lot of time with Nan and Grandad this week. And I'm glad, since Mum has been so grumpy. But after I came home from having the weekend away, Mum was much nicer and gave me heaps of cuddles and kisses, which I love (even if I don't show it). We used to have lots of arguments over food, but over the last couple of days anything I've asked for, Mum has given me. I hope it lasts! So I've eaten lots of sultanas, dried apple, fresh apple, peaches, rice cakes with vegemite, grapes and anzacs. Dinner always seems to be a chicken schnitzel or lamb cutlet with some vegies that I don't touch. Usually I don't want anything at all, but when Mum presented me with a sliced up chicken schnitzel and tomato sauce, to eat at the coffee table in front of Mr Jeremy Fisher on TV, I was very happy and ate the whole lot. Aunty Dodo came over a couple of nights ago for dinner. I love seeing her and we raced around the place together. I was pummelling her on the couch when I had a good idea for a game. I yelled, 'I get a hammer and screw you!...Yeah!' and took off to the cupboard to get my tool kit. I found my drill and chased her around the house with it. It was great fun! Usually I get to watch my shows on TV in the afternoon. I ask to watch ABC Kids, or one of my videos. My favourite video is the Counting Video by Richard Scarry. I love to count along with Lily. I was watching it yesterday afternoon when I heard Jasmine wake up. I told Mum, 'Mum stay there and watch Cunting Ideo, Oskar might get Jazzie.' A bit later Mum had some other show on TV. I said to her, 'That's not a good pogamme for you, Mummy,' so she turned it off. I was pretty happy with that. Friday, February 06, 2004
One problem with Daddy not being here is that I have to get Mum out of bed each morning. It's only been three days, but I'm sure she's grouchier every morning. This morning I was very happy because I persuaded her to get into my bed for a cuddle; but she seemed to think that the cuddle should have lasted for longer than a few seconds and refused to get up. She kept muttering about the time and that it was too early, and pointed to my clock saying she wouldn't get up until the big stick reached the top. But that was ages away! I stared at the clock and tugged on her hand and whined at her to get up. She finally did a few minutes before 6am - that's like a sleep-in - how lazy. Mum should get to bed earlier. I'm loving a new computer game that we borrowed from the library. It's called Counting and Sorting and has a bear and a penguin to tell you what to do. I started playing it soon after I got up, and only stopped to have some porridge and to go to the gym. I didn't want to go to the gym today, so I registered my protest by kicking Jasmine in the face as I walked past her. After surviving a terrifying blast from Mummy I thought that maybe I shouldn't have done that. Oops. It was an ancident, really. I made up for it by being really nice to Jasmine at the gym. A bit later when Jasmine was hanging around me at the computer, instead of kicking her away I said, 'That's not a good place for you, Jazzie'. Mum was very happy with that and took her away for me. Why, Mum, why? Why? Why? Why? Tuesday, February 03, 2004
I've been a busy boy in the last week. My big news is that I've started going to Kinder! Mum and I went for the first time on Friday and had such fun. As we drove to Kinder with my new Wiggles bag and my new hat, I said to Mum, 'Oskar hold Mummy's hand, walk to gate, Mummy might lift Oskar...Oskar presses eh button...lady might open eh door'. I remembered the last time we went there when we were deciding if I would go to that kinder. I was so excited to be there; I flitted from one table to the next looking at all the things to do. Then I took Mum outside and played with the balls and in the sandpit and on the climbing frame. I really didn't want to go home. Today was a bit different - it was longer and all the parents eventually left us kids there with the teachers. Mum played with me for about ten minutes; in that time I did a painting, drew a picture with textas, played with some weird plastic things and investigated the table with shells on it. I really wanted to play outside though, but Mum wouldn't let me so I did a big squeal and threw myself on the ground and kicked and cried. That was when Mum decided to leave. I grumbled about her for about five minutes then settled down to play with the toys and do more paintings. I had a great time there. When Mum and Jazzie came to pick me up I dragged them off to the park where we played for another 45 minutes before going home to flake on the couch. But Daddy's gone. He said goodbye before I left for Kinder and he looked really sad. I knew he was going overseas but I kept forgetting. When Mum, Jazzie and I got home, I said, 'Oskar knock on door...' before remembering that Daddy wasn't there to open it. Then after my bath I got Mum to wrap the towel around me as I do with Daddy and I said, 'Yagizygle!' as I ran out to the loungeroom and called out, 'Daddy!' But he wasn't there - I stopped and turned around looking sad as Mum came up to cuddle me. I buried my face in her neck. I had a fun bath, though. Jasmine got in first then I jumped in, but before sitting down I peed in the water. I giggled away as Mum made faces at me. I tried to pour water over Jasmine's head to wash her hair but Mum kept stopping me and instead washed my hair! I was horrified but was too late to stop her. After suffering the hair rinsing process, I got Mum back by squirting her and Jazzie with the squirter fish. Then I drank the bathwater from whatever vessel I could fill while Mum made more faces at me and tried to tell me not to. I stayed in the bath for ages after Jasmine got out. Since Mum was dressing Jasmine, I pinched the bottle of shampoo and emptied it into the bath. Then I filled the bottle again and drank the water. Mum was a bit mortified that I was drinking it - I was just experimenting! And anyway, it was a nice flavour.
